Everyone does it, a simple verbal compliance when you really don’t mean it. “Sure Dad, I don’t mind helping you set up the Apple TV” or “Ya Sarah, I read your [novel-long] politically charged Facebook status and it’s super enlightening.” We are not going to delve into the reasons of why people lie or indulge someone because bottom line is, it can just be easier to agree on something rather than contest. A more interesting topic to discuss is can one pick up on these intricacies of when someone is lying. Naturally everyone wants to assume that they can detect when someone is lying, and technology companies are helping with their advancements in creating software systems that can recognize facial expressions.
