Google Pixel 3 XL Review
One of the best phones in the market that you can purchase for yourself or someone you love is either the Google Pixel 3 or the Google Pixel 3 XL. We created this in-depth review of Google Pixel 3 XL and Google Pixel 3 to help you make the right decision.
One thing is sure, Google is always concerned about data, and the products they make are no different. They have always been a slightly odd proposition ever since the first Pixel phone was launched by Google in October 2016.
A huge portion of Google’s income – about £۹۵ billion in 2017 – comes from advertising. Google is not a traditional manufacturer of hardware and does not have what it takes to compete with the revenues made from Apple’s iPhones.
However, Google, over the last three years, has shown that it is a company capable of building high-quality phones; a typical example of Google high-quality phones is the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL. Both the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL has similar features, but they have different battery life and physical size.
An interesting feature that makes the latest Pixels remarkable when compared to its rivals from Samsung and Apple is artificial intelligence (AI).
Google has demonstrated its artificial intelligence and machine learning ability with the board game playing exploits of its DeepMind Subsidiary as well as its ability to make this tech available on a large scale. Thus, this confirms that most major changes to the Google Pixel 3 products come as AI updates.
Google Pixel 3 XL Camera Quality
Do you want to know how Google’s AI lens functions? A lot of improvements were made in the latest Pixels (3 and 3XL), Google focused a lot on the camera, making it one of the best cameras any smart phone could have.
The new generation of Pixels (Pixel 3 and 3 XL) is amazing; it features an improved camera that’s backed by Google artificial intelligence.
Both the 5.5-inch Pixel 3 and the 6.3-inch Pixel 3 XL features a 12MP rear camera that can produce crisp pictures with deep color ranges at any time of the day.
Google decided that one rear camera is enough for the latest Pixels, a decision made during a period when some phone manufacturers like Samsung are already making devices with four rear cameras.
Well, Google feels the AI can handle the job, that’s why it shunned multiple sensors at the back of the phone.
Both Pixel 3 and 3 XL has a second camera on the front in the form of a wide-angle lens. Pictures taken are strictly private, Google cannot access data from your images unless you upload them to Google’s photo service – it offers uploads for free to Pixel owners for a limited period.
The Night Sight feature is another interesting feature of the AI cameras in pixels that allows you shoot natural-looking pictures without enabling the flash light.
The new AI-driven camera will use its machine learning feature to combine multiple exposures and combine several HDR images taken in low light to produce a nice image with more details and less noise.
However, we cannot evaluate this feature yet until the Night Sight Mode update is introduced in the weeks to come.
The upcoming future is promising even though the camera is capable of taking pictures in low light.
Another interesting feature about the AI camera in Pixel 3 and 3 XL is the lens. Lens uses computer vision to scan live images on the camera screen or pictures you have taken and provide recommendations about the details in them.
Point camera at a supermarket or delivery truck, and the writing on it is recognized by Lens, then it provides a link where you can order online.
This feature also works on business cards with email addresses. Lens can also attempt to identify different plant types and provide product recommendations that are similar to what it captures.
There is also a Top Shot feature in the AI camera. Top shot makes use of the AI to take alternate pics in HDR+ and suggest the best picture from the sequence; it also allows you flip through the images and choose a pic for yourself.
The pixel captures footage before and after pressing the shutter button. The Top Shot offers you alternative options that may even be better than the actual pictures taken. The camera also includes a photobooth mode that captures images automatically using AI when facing the camera with a smile.
The major issue with these different modes is that it is not clear who these modes are for and they are largely hidden. The work just fine but are found in the camera’s settings. It will be better if these features function automatically, saving users the stress of searching for them under settings.
However, we are hoping these modes will be located in the standard interface. For instance, the Google Lens features was hidden in the settings when it was first introduced in Pixel 2, but the feature is now located in the standard interface right next to the photo edit button.

There isn’t much to say about the hardware for XL. Despite the size, the phone is easy to use and neatly designed. The phone is good looking, but I doubt it’s going to top the list for design or creativity. However, if you are going to spend your cash on the 64GB model which cost about £۸۶۹ or the 128GB model that cost £۹۶۹, you need to purchase a case for the phone; the phone’s back can be scratched easily.
Another feature about the latest Pixels that you don’t want to miss out is the notch. Google did something different from other phone manufacturer who shy away from producing notch intrusive (for instance, the Huawei Mate 20 pro has a fairly slim notch). The notch on Pixel XL lurches nearly a centimeter into the screen. So if you have plenty notifications or icons along the top of your screen, they will split around the notch.
When paying for an expensive phone like the Google Pixel, you aren’t expecting a slow device. The price is worth the speed; Pixel is pretty fast. Google Pixel feature a 4GB of RAM and has a Snapdragon 845 processor.
Google Pixel 3 XL features a 3,430 mAh battery that can last for 24 hours, even when running heavy application. The phone still has a fast-charge feature which can top the battery life within 15 minutes.
Google also released a wireless charging device for the phone. This neatly designed white plastic charging stand that goes for £۶۹ has a perfect grip for the phone; it can also serve as a voice assistant you can place in your home. Once you become familiar with this wireless charger, it makes you wonder why other wireless chargers are flat, making it difficult to use your phone while charging it.
Tied into Google
Just as other mobile phones released this year, the Pixel 3 XL comes during a period when hardware innovation is minimal. The Pixel, Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and iPhone XS Max all have similar identical form factor. When comparing these devices, the major difference you will notice is the notch size.
I doubt there will be any major changes in hardware in the coming years unless the Samsung’s folding Galaxy X smartphone which is to be unveiled few weeks from now does something different from other phones released in 2018. Thus, the key feature for most phone manufacturers will be on software.
For instance, iPhone XS Max was launched with more focus on what’s taking place beneath the screen. Andy Rubin, the original founder of Android, launched the Essential Phone last year as a competitor. The device launching was not easy but Andy is still using a software oriented AI phone to follow this up.
Besides the AI-driven camera in Google Pixel 3 and 3XL, another interesting feature is the convenience of services offered by Google. Almost every activity done by the device through Google services is tracked or monitored by Google, and your data assist in fueling its advertising-heavy business model.
This is more dominant in email and searching on the web. Google has developed an ecosystem through these platforms that lots of individuals are likely to build their online appearance.
All these features are possible, all thanks to the Android operating system. And there is no better version of Android Pie than the one running on Google’s Pixel 3 and 3 XL. Google offers its phone users the latest versions and provides them with exclusive features. In the United States, Pixel phones are capable of screening incoming calls and send reply using an automated Chatbot.
Android pie is also AI driven just as the Pixel, its AI features context-aware app suggestion and Adaptive Battery. Thus, Android Pie offers a glimpse at Artificial intelligence focused operating system in the future. This also applies to Pixel 3 XL.
Google feels that software is the future of smartphones, and it’s in the perfect spot to exploit that.
